Our subconscious minds have no sense of humor, play no jokes and cannot tell the difference between reality and an imagined thought or image. What we continually think about eventually will manifest in our lives.

Over twenty or so years ago, I created my first spiritual writing, or actually, my first spiritual writing created me.

It was a tri-fold pamphlet printed on canary yellow paper I dubbed “Affirmations for the Soul”. It contained 18 spiritual “whispers” on topics ranging from self-empowerment and determination, to family and community, to the universal forces like hope, faith and love of which the most transformative divine whispers are born.

Being a true entrepreneur at heart, I opened a post office box, placed an ad in the local paper and waited patiently for others to respond to my offer to receive Affirmations for the Soul (for the low, low price of $4.95 p S/H, I believe). And low and behold I actually received some orders! Not enough to keep the lights on at the time, but enough to let me know that I was absolutely on my authentic life path.

The icing on that proverbial cake of encouragement was an offer to publish my affirmations in Health Quest magazine. My first wisdom whispers led quickly to my first publication! Oh, how I love well-timed divine encouragement (but is there any other kind?).

“Get good counsel, but do your own decidin’!” a favorite “Nanaism” by my Nana Celeste Jones Borden

Greetings!

I love this picture I took in December of 2011 of my Nana. She was resting in her favorite recliner completely enveloped in a warm bright white light, as all Angels are.

To hear her tell it though, she was “resting her eyes”. This explanation, of course, is despite all outward appearances to the contrary — especially that all-too familiar lean-to-the-right — suggesting that she’d actually nodded off.

But resting her eyes is probably the better explanation. Try to change the channel, for example. You’d soon find out just how not asleep she was. Did I mention she also had a mean right hook?

In retrospect, there’s a really good chance she was actually deep in thought, contemplating her existence, weighing her options.  Continue reading

Today’s 10 minute Wisdom Recipe™:

Spend 10 life-affirming minutes doing the following:

  1. Find a quiet place and spend two minutes breathing deeply.
  2. Spend some time in thoughts and feelings of gratitude for something you’re experiencing right now, even if all you can give thanks for is your breathing.
  3. Acknowledge whether you feel empowered or drained. Get in touch with your body. What’s it telling you?
  4. Identify and commit to doing (or not doing) one thing by day’s end to eliminate energy drains from your life (lack of rest? caffeine? a person or project? an entire to-do list?)
  5. Identify and commit to doing (or not doing) one thing by day’s end to enhance your spirit … actually, make that TWO … you’ve already done one, today’s Wisdom Recipe™!

Please join the conversation and share your reflections about this post, the Wisdom Recipe™, and your own wisdom moments! There’s strength in community and community begins with you … and me!

Be Well … and WISE!
