Over twenty or so years ago, I created my first spiritual writing, or actually, my first spiritual writing created me.
It was a tri-fold pamphlet printed on canary yellow paper I dubbed “Affirmations for the Soul”. It contained 18 spiritual “whispers” on topics ranging from self-empowerment and determination, to family and community, to the universal forces like hope, faith and love of which the most transformative divine whispers are born.
Being a true entrepreneur at heart, I opened a post office box, placed an ad in the local paper and waited patiently for others to respond to my offer to receive Affirmations for the Soul (for the low, low price of $4.95 p S/H, I believe). And low and behold I actually received some orders! Not enough to keep the lights on at the time, but enough to let me know that I was absolutely on my authentic life path.
The icing on that proverbial cake of encouragement was an offer to publish my affirmations in Health Quest magazine. My first wisdom whispers led quickly to my first publication! Oh, how I love well-timed divine encouragement (but is there any other kind?).
Recently, I happened upon an enlarged, framed version of Affirmation for the Soul as it appeared in Health Quest Magazine given to me by a significant other for my 40th birthday. I love this version of Affirmations of the Soul because it is signed by all of my party guests and filled along the margins with well wishes and encouragement. A community of loved ones “gathered” in person and in writing to affirm my very existence, my light, my SHINE!
And the words I’d penned almost two decades before were the crowning glory; they took on new significance for me then. The light I’d shared all those years ago returned to me when I needed it most. And guess what happened this week? I “just happened upon” a smaller version of the same copy. Not a moment too soon. Again, divine timing. Of course there are no accidents and we always receive what we need when we need it most.
Perhaps you’re in need of ways to affirm your own existence and awesome glow. The world and all of its challenges can dull even the brightest light from time to time. So in the days and weeks to come I will share wisdom from Affirmations for the Soul. Below are three that moved me especially today:
Challenges
Challenges I face are only steppingstones on my road toward greatness. Though they may test me, they will never defeat me.
Motivation
I am excited and energized by the challenges of life. That energy motivates me to succeed in all that I do, and I eagerly await the next challenge.
Peace
Peace is the ultimate state of serenity in this Universe and it envelops my being and protects me from all doubt and fear.
